The 2009 Summer Dress Silhouette

In fashion history terms it is now very easy to see how the summer dresses for 2009 is moving from a straight silhouette to A-line. The profile is getting much wider at skirt and shoulder level, and is balanced with a longer hemline.
Observe how many of the dresses in this seasons fashion shows and top designers use a wider A-line silhouette, drapery, tucks, pleats and bows. Almost all these techniques are combined with that other strong new fashion trend of greater modesty of the neckline. Most of these summer dresses have more modest sweeping jewel or boat necklines rather than ultra low revealing décolleté.

Legs and breasts are often a girl’s best fashion accessory, but if neither are your strongest features, or you’re after something a little less cliche but equally sensual, look to your shoulders and indulge in both the backless fashion trend and the one-shoulder / single-shoulder trend. Both are key components of women’s Spring/Summer 2008 fashion trends and Spring/Summer 2009 fashion trends.

Like most of 2008 and 2009′s fashion trends the one-shoulder trend emerged on the fashion scene in 2007 and it should come as no surprise it came courtesy of hypermodel Kate Moss. Surprisingly though, it’s not because this was a look that Moss was often seen wearing, but because it featured in her Kate Moss for TopShop range. So ladies, get shopping for those new summer clothes!
